Executive coaching material

I have put this on the discussion section of our Group, but as I haven't heard anything back, I thought I would copy it onto this webpage.

I shared some useful information with a couple of you following the last session on 2 September, and Annie suggested that it woudl be useful to share this more widely with the rest of you if you are involved in executive coaching.

There are a couple of really good papers that Daniel Goleman has written about emotional intelligence and leadership. One paper is called "What Makes a Leader?" and it's in the Harvard Business Review in 1998 (and reprinted in HBR in January 2004) - and I have found a link which would enable it to be downloaded direct on http://coursesite.cl.uh.edu/bpa/mgmt5133/whatmakesaleader.pdf . A second paper is called "Leadership that Gets Results" and it's in HBR in March-April 2000 - and I've found a direct link for this too on http://urgenceleadership.lesaffaires.com/attachments/743_leadership-that-gets-results_Goleman_Daniel.pdf .

Also you may be interested in the Leadership Qualities Framework which we use in the NHS (see http://www.nhsleadershipqualities.nhs.uk/ for this and some information about the 360 degree feedback based on this) - I think much of this is transferrable to other sectors. And some of our discussion also related to line managers. CIPD members may already be aware of this, but the CIPD/ACAS have just published a really fascinating report on Meeting the UK's people management skills deficit. It's on http://www.cipd.co.uk/subjects/maneco/general/_meeting_UK_people_management_skills_deficit.htm if you are want to know more.

I hope this helps. Any comments or any other information you may wish to share would be very welcome.
